Loersch Slide Frames and Designer Tiles are one of
today’s hottest products in scrapbooking. Their
popularity is driven by; the number of colors
available and the variety of creative ways they may
be used. This article will explain the various
products available, offer some suggestions on how
they are used and illustrate how Loersch products
are used.
Slide Frames – The Micro-Sized Mini-Frame
Slide Frames make beautiful enhancements to
scrapbooking pages, custom greeting cards and are an
excellent choice in making gift tags. Slide frames
are available in a variety of sizes but our most
popular size is the 2” x 2” with a 1 3/8” x 7/8”
rectangular hole in the middle.
At Loersch, we look at them as a micro-sized
picture-mat or mini-frame. Slide Frames are our most
widely used product.
Slide Frames are used over a photo, word or phrase
allowing the element to “show through”. This
effectively “frames” the element - drawing attention
and giving special visual meaning and interest to
that area on the page or card. This creates a
certain intimacy and depending on your color choice,
you can draw attention to or develop a cohesive look
to your creative work. Often crafters will add
additional decorations to the slide frames, paint or
even etch them with tools.
One thing is for certain; with twelve main color
groups and six colors in each group - your choices
of finding the right color to have a perfect focal
point and give clearer meaning in your creative
work is only limited by your imagination.
Designer Tiles
Another exciting addition to our product lineup is
the Designer Tile. Introduced in late 2004 these are
now available in the same 72 colors as our Slide
Frame lineup.
The Designer Tile as a stand-alone embellishment is
an exciting product to use. Think of them as a
micro-thin solid surface to glue and add
embellishments to. They are like “a page unto
themselves”.
Embellished in the same ways as the Slide Frames,
Designer Tiles are great shape to work with.
Designer Tiles have a 50%
larger surface than the Slide Frames to add even
more embellished elements. Designer Tiles work
fantastically as color accents or backgrounds for
stick-on-lettering, stamping or pictures. Currently
many crafters are treating Designer Tiles as tiny
pages and using them on the same page with Slide
Frames.
Designer Tiles and Frames Together
Another possibility is using Designer Tiles with
Frames together. Easy and very dynamic combining
these products offers huge creative possibilities.
You simply use a Designer Tile as a backing to the
Slide Frame!
Any two frames can snap together, providing a
multitude of two color combinations to work with.
Tone on tone; contrasting colors, all reds, warm and
cool, light to dark. Think of the possibilities!
Crafters have also combined the Slide Frames with
the Designer Tiles but at a different angle creating
a star effect.
Interesting to Know - Archival Matters
Archival and durability matters are always a concern
at Loersch. Doubly important, given the uniqueness
and personal worth the elements hold to their
creators.
Slide frames originated in the photographic industry
to hold transparency films in projectors.
Extensively used with 35mm slide films, Loersch
mounts are used by professional photographers
because of the protection they offer. These unique
physical properties meet archival standards. No
concern need be given to acid damage from our
products. We do recommend using Herma Tape™,
archival tape or Glue Dots™ to attach our products
safely and securely. Loersch products are also very
thin (Frames being slightly thinner than the
Designer Tiles) so the likely hood of your book
pages being damaged from weighted creasing is
minimal. Slide Frames if used with an acetate chip
in the opening offer additional protection for
special page embellishments. Some crafters have also
taken advantage of the versatility of Slide Frames
and build up layers of mounts to “house” thicker
elements on their pages. We also have Large format
Frames available in 4 sizes that are different
shapes and sizes then our Slide Frames.
Loersch Slide Frames and Designer Tiles offer many
creative advantages for today’s Crafters.
